Bruce Campbell Officially Announces His Retirement from Playing Ash Williams

As we learned this past Friday, Starz officially announced that “Ash vs. Evil Dead” has been cancelled. This doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the legendary Bruce Campbell in horror genre, as I’m sure he’ll find a home in many upcoming projects in the future.

Campbell announced his retirement from the Ash character this past Monday, which you can see from his Twitter page below. Today, however, he took to his Facebook page and shared his farewell message, also included below.

He recently shared the follow farewell message via his Facebook account. Bruce Campbell has officially buried his chainsaw, folks.

Good people, Evil Dead fans everywhere, I bid you a heartfelt farewell playing Ash – the character I took acting lessons with for 39 years.

I am hereby retiring from that portrayal. It’s time. I followed Ash from his formative years thru his mid-life crisis and decline. What a thrill! What a privilege!

We had a great resurgence with the help of Starz (kudos not jeers, folks). They made it possible for 15 more hours of Evil Dead-ness in your life – the equivalent of 10 more features!

Is Ash dead? Never. Ash is as much a concept as a person. Where there is evil in this world, there must be one to counter – man or woman, it matters not.

Thanks for watching.

Love, Bruce

Thanks for all the amazing Evil Dead franchise movie memories, Bruce. Everyone at Dark Universe are super excited to see what you end up doing next. I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing you in many more horror related projects in the future.
