Luca Guadagnino's ‘Suspiria’ is Set for an Italian Theatrical Release

Variety is reporting this evening that Amazon Studios’ remake of Dario Argento’s “Suspiria” directed by Luca Guadagnino will be released theatrically in Italy by Videa, which is in Cannes as the Italian distributor of Lars Von Trier’s competition entry The House That Jack Built.

Videa holds most international rights to Argento’s 1977 Italian horror classic. They co-produced the “Suspiria” reimagining with Amazon and Guadagnino’s own Frenesy Films shingle and have subsequently boarded as a distributor.

Videa is planning a fall Italian release in tandem with Amazon’s U.S. theatrical outing of Guadagnino’s follow-up to Call Me by Your Name.

Synopsis:
A young American ballet dancer travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is something far more sinister and supernatural. She becomes increasingly terrified after a series of gruesome murders ensue and she slowly unravels the dark history of the academy.

Suspiria also stars Tilda Swinton as (Madame Blanc), Chloë Grace Moretz as (Patricia), Mia Goth as (Sara), Jessica Harper as (Anke), Angela Winkler as (Miss Tanner), Sylvie Testud as (Miss Griffith), Renée Soutendijk as (Miss Huller), Ingrid Cavenas (Miss Vendegast), Lutz Ebersdorf as (Dr. Jozef Klemperer) and Malgorzata Bela as (Mother).

The film will launch at the Venice Film Festival in September.
