Dark Universe learned today that Tom Hardy will star in Sony’s long-awaited Spider-Man spin-off film Venom, with Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer on board to direct, reports Variety.
Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) will write the script, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing the film, along with Amy Pascal. Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing the project for Columbia Pictures.
Here’s some information on the Venom character:
“Venom has been one of Marvel’s top villains and a Spider-Man fixture since he was introduced in 1988, created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. The character is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. In return, the alien vests its victim with incredible powers. He made his first big-screen appearance in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and was portrayed by Topher Grace.”
Venom’s first big-screen debut was in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, where he was played by Topher Grace. We might see a more imposing Eddie Brock/Venom from Tom Hardy.
Venom will poison theaters on October 5, 2018.
