Troma's Own 'The Toxic Avenger' Is Next In Line For The Remake Treatment

We love Troma! Always have, always will. Their films are not the greatest in the world, but they never intend to make good films, but that’s something they do on purpose. Troma films are just pure fun, and that’s why we really enjoy them. Today, we learned that one of Troma’s cult classics is to receive a remake, which is none other than The Toxic Avenger. We are hearing that co-director of 2016’s (Sausage Party) Conrad Vernon will helm the film.

Some words from Vernon, “The opportunity to re-imagine a favorite cult-classic from my high school years is an honor. Toxie is an underground icon. My favorite kind.”

The film is being described as a “more grounded and mainstream” property, The Toxic Avenger is being co-written by Archer’s Mike Arnold and Chris Poole, working from a draft by Steve Pink and D.C. Mitchell.

“The Toxic Avenger is a re-imagining of Troma’s cult classic, which tells the story of a New Jersey teenager whose accidental tumble into a vat of toxic waste turns him into a mutant superhero.”

The talent involved in remaking The Toxic Avenger are Bob Cooper and Richard Saperstein’s Storyscape Entertainment, Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road, and Charlie Corwin. The flick will be executive produced by Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, along with Bob Cooper, Alex Schwartz, Greg Lessans, Shara Kay, Armen Aghaeian, Steve Kessler, Holly Kobzina,Dave Mendez, Edward Mokhtarian, Geno Tazioli, Steve Pink, and Mike Wilkins.
