5 of the Best Horror Movies of All Time That Are Available to Stream Right Now on Amazon Prime

Looking for a list of some of the best horror movies of all time to watch directly on the popular Amazon Prime Video streaming service over the weekend? If so, I got you covered. I have included 5 of the more common classic horror features in the list below that are available right now on the website’s streaming service.

1. The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist still remains to this day one of the scariest horror movie experiences ever. Directed by American filmmaker William Friedkin and starring a young Linda Blair as Regan, who is possessed by a evil entity. Dick Smith’s gruesome makeup effects work adds an extra level of fright throughout the duration of the film.

2. Halloween (1978)

Considering by many as the greatest horror movie of all time. Directed by the horror master, John Carpenter, Halloween still remains one of the most influential slasher films in the subgenre to this day. The soundtrack for Halloween is just as iconic as the film itself, which was composed by the director himself in only three days.

3. Friday the 13th (1980)

Capitalizing on the success John Carpenter’s Halloween, director Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 slasher film Friday the 13th took a unique approach to the formula with a first person view of the killer. And we don’t know who is behind all the bloodshed until later on in the film when the killers identity is revealed. After its success, Friday the 13th and its numerous sequels, would soon become a fan favorite in the horror genre.

4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Director Tobe Hooper’s relentless slasher classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre changed the horror game back in 1974. The film focuses more on bringing shock value to the audience rather than covering the screen in extreme blood and guts, but that doesn’t take anything away from the heart-racing experience. TCM truly deserves it’s place in this list of the best horror movies of all time. And I do have to add that Gunnar Hansen’s portrayal of Leatherface has never been topped in the fright department.

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Many a horror fans I have spoken to over the years often remember renting Wes Craven’s 1984 classic slasher film A Nightmare on Elm Street back in the days of VHS. Freddy Krueger, also known to fans of the franchise as the Springwood Slasher, has become one of the most recognisable names in the world of horror over the course of 30-plus years.
