Ice Nine Kills Lends Their Cinematic Metal to 'PUBG: New State' Soundtrack With New Song "Hunting Season"

Ice Nine Kills have slashed up a pair of classic metal albums in 2018’s The Silver Scream and last year’s Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2, blending metalcore, orchestral, and death metal into a reverent, referential brew. While this direction towards the bloodier side of cinema is a more recent development, the band has taken inspiration from all forms of media throughout its history, notably with the literature-themed Every Trick in the Book album in 2015. With this latest single, they can now add the world of video games to the media which the Los Angeles natives have explored.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG for short, have expanded their universe to the future with a new mobile game subtitled New State, and INK have contributed a rather straightforward, radio-friendly single to the game’s soundtrack. While PUBG is more of an action/FPS game, the darker elements are still very present here on “Hunting Season,” particularly with the orchestral arrangements. Some were done by Fleshgod Apocalypse’s Francesco Ferrini, while others were handled by Ice Nine Kills’ own Dan Sugarman. Even the gang vocal sections harken back to the band’s own “IT Is The End” from the first Silver Scream

Make no mistake, this is still very much in the vein of modern INK, and it’s an earworm of a single.

“Hunting Season” can be found on digital platforms here. Stream the single below.
