Ozzy Osbourne Returns With "Patient Number 9," New Studio Album Due Out This Fall

The Godfather of Heavy Metal himself, Ozzy Osbourne came roaring back with 2020’s Ordinary Man, featuring a host of collaborators such as producer/guitarist Andrew Watt, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, Post Malone, Travis Barker, and so many more. His first record in a decade proved to be one of the strongest and best-received of Osbourne’s half-century-long career, and just days after the release, as evidenced by its Gold certification in both the US and Canada, he announced that he and Watt were working on the follow-up, and two and a half years later, Parkinson’s diagnosis and COVID-19 battle be damned, we have our first taste of the impending new album.

Patient Number 9” is the title track for Ozzy’s thirteenth solo record, and it is a stomping, rocking, fist-pumping good time. Featuring guitar work by the iconic Jeff Beck, the song focuses on Ozzy’s seemingly endless determination and drive in the face of the inevitable, with the chorus declaring “I’m not getting out, no I’m not getting out alive.” We also get more of the self-reflective moments we saw on Ordinary Man, with lines such as “how many tears till I ground myself ‘cause no one cries for me?” All told, the man’s still got it, and thank the metal gods for a producer and collaborator like Andrew Watt to help bring this out of Ozzy, who is seeing chart successes the likes of which he hasn’t seen since 2007’s Black Rain.

Patient Number 9 is due out on September 9th, 2022 via Epic Records. Stream the title track, featuring guitar god Jeff Beck, below:
