Christopher Columbus Says a Script for ‘Gremlins 3’ Exists, Promises Tangible Puppets Instead of CGI

Gremlins 3 Script Exists: Christopher Columbus Wants Tangible Puppets

While speaking with our friends over at Collider today, Christopher Columbus, the talent behind the screenplay for Joe Dante 1984 classic Gremlins, revealed that he has written a script for Gremlins 3 and would still love to make the sequel if he can resolve certain rights issues trapping the projects progression.

Columbus revealed the following details to the site:

I would love to do it. I wrote a script, so there is an existing script. We’re working out some rights issues right now, so we’re just trying to figure out when the best time to make that film would be.

He added: “I would still do it the same way – I would do it as tangible puppets, not CGI. Maybe having — you know we had one stop-motion scene in the first Gremlins, but I don’t think I’d use much CGI in Gremlins 3.

Until the rights issues are sorted, any movement on Gremlins 3 won’t be happening. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this issue gets resolved sooner rather than later.

On a related note, the original film’s star Zach Galligan stated in an interview back in 2017 with the folks over at Bleeding Cool that Warner Bros wants to make a third Gremlins film eventually.

Would you be up for another Gremlins sequel with tangible puppets replacing CGI? Can you imagine what other goodies Columbus has included in the script for Gremlins 3? As usual, you can let us know the answers to both questions down in our comments section below this post.
