Columbia Pictures To Reboot ‘Starship Troopers’ With ‘Freddy Vs. Jason’ Screenwriters

Starship Troopers

Columbia Pictures are planning on rebooting Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 sci-fi flick Starship Troopers, with future plans on turning it into another franchise. The original film will be 20 years old next year, but do you think it’s one of those films that needs a reboot? To be honest, I was never a big fan of the sequels.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are attached to the film, who have worked on both Freddy Vs. Jason and the 2009 Friday the 13th remake, along with an upcoming Baywatch reboot.

We have heard that the film will be returning to its roots, adapting directly from Robert A. Heinlein’s 1959 novel. Below is the plot:

“In the distant future, the Earth is at war with a race of giant alien insects. Little is known about the Bugs except that they are intent on the eradication of all human life. But there was a time before the war… A Mobile Infantry travels to distant alien planets to take the war to the Bugs. They are a ruthless enemy with only one mission: Survival of their species no matter what the cost…”

Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing the project.
