‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Director Jon Watts to Produce Long-Rumored ‘Final Destination’ Reboot

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Director Jon Watts to Produce Long-Rumored 'Final Destination' Reboot

It has been over a decade since we got a Final Destination film. I think around 2015 or so, even I gave up on the prospect of another installment, after the franchise-redeeming fifth film gave us such moments as that gymnastics accident. While there’s not been a release date or cast named for the film, it would appear as though it is happening, and there is a big player attached to the production.

As first reported by Variety, Jon Watts, fresh off his directing of the billion-dollar-grossing Spider-Man: No Way Home, has joined the sixth Final Destination film as a producer, alongside his wife, Dianne McGunigle. Joining them in producing the film are series mainstays Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor. Further, Watts has provided a treatment for the film, which is being written into a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games) and Guy Busick (Scream 2022).

No date has been named for the sixth Final Destination, but the New Line production is set to premiere on HBO Max when it does release.

It should be noted that Watts is not directing this film. Those energies are likely being devoted to the upcoming Fantastic Four film, rebooting that franchise after over a decade. Regardless, any news about a new Final Destination is good news, especially with the recent successes of previously dormant franchises and properties like Candyman or Halloween.
