'Doctor Jekyll': Hammer Studios Film Casts Co-Stars Lindsay Duncan and Simon Callow

Hammer Studios and director Joe Stephenson’s upcoming Doctor Jekyll film casts BAFTA nominees Lindsay Duncan (Birdman) and Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral), reports the folks at Variety in an exclusive update this evening. The site also notes that principal photography wrapped this past Tuesday in the United Kingdom.

The new film, which is being described as a modern interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, has the following plot:

the reclusive Nina Jekyll finding friendship with her newly hired help, Rob. They must work together to prevent Hyde from destroying her life.

The character of Rob is played by Scott Chambers (Chicken).

Also joining the cast of Doctor Jekyll are Jonathan Hyde (Titanic) Tony Jayawardena (“The Crown”) and Robyn Cara (“The Rising”).

The film was produced by London based B Good Picture Company, in association with Fluidity Films. Stephenson produced with Guy de Beaujeu. Liam Coutts is associate producer. Christian Angermayer serves as executive producer.

The reestablished Hammer Studios recently acquired the rights to the film for UK release.

Variety also states that Doctor Jekyll is expected to target a fall festival birth.
