Eduardo Sanchez Wants To Release An Extended Cut Of The Blair Witch Project

With the upcoming release of Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch on September 16th, it seems that a lot of interest for the Blair Witch franchise has risen up again. Co-director on the original Blair Witch Project Eduardo Sanchez is keen on bringing us fans an extended cut of the 1999 film, which could create some interest in a possible franchise revival with more sequels, or even, dare I say it, a remake.

Sanchez had the following to say on a recent Found Footage Files podcast:

“In a couple of weeks I could probably take the original movie and edit a longer version. I know the fans are like ‘everybody wants to see it’ … it would be cool to do, honestly. I wouldn’t hesitate to do that if Lionsgate Films hired me. I think it would be a lot of fun.

Start a petition … if I can get enough interest from the fans, I can bring it to Lionsgate Films’ attention.”

If you would like to see this cut of the film get a release, go to the petition page and make it happen. I just checked the page myself and it’s beginning to build numbers with 968 signatures, including Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli.
