Edward Neumeier’s Next ‘Robocop’ Film Will Be a Direct Sequel to the Original

Blumhouse’s Halloween film is ignoring all past events in their latest sequel, so would it be a bad idea for Edward Neumeier’s next Robocop entry to do the same thing? Well, that’s not for us to decide. We are pretty sure that many hardcore fans will be a little pissed off.

Screenwriter Edward Neumeier, who wrote the 1987 classic film Robocop with Michael Miner, recently attended the Barbados Independent Film Festival, where he spilled the beans that he’s currently working on a direct sequel to the original.

It’s nice that people are still interested in RoboCop and they have me working on a new one at MGM right now so maybe we’ll get another one out of it.

We’re not supposed to say too much. There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.

Do we have a new trend going on here? Will we see more franchises ignoring sequels? It really doesn’t bother us anymore, and to be perfectly honest, it’s more of a nostalgia thing if they can capture what made the original film so great.

Stay tuned for more on the new Robocop if/when it happens.
