Evil Dead Original Ending Released By Remake Director Fede Alvarez

Horror fans received a bit of a treat this past Wednesday evening from Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez, who surprised everyone by releasing the original ending to his 2013 film to celebrate its 9-year anniversary. The footage is only lasts mere seconds, but what a treat it is to finally see what was originally intended to be the final seconds before the end credits rolled.

Alvarez shared the following details from his Twitter account, including a first ever look at the film’s original ending and explaining why it went unused.

The Evil Dead remake follows:

Mia (Jane Levy), a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend, Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to accompany her to their family’s remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.

I think it would be a great idea to include this alternate ending on a future release of Alvarez’s Evil Dead. I already own a solid Blu-Ray version of the film, but I think it would be well worth an upgrade if they threw in the original ending to Evil Dead as a deleted scene.

Do you think they made the right decision in changing the ending instead keeping the original ending to the film? If so, would you like it to be added as a bonus feature in a future home video release of the film? As usual, you can let us know the answers to both questions down in our comments section below this post.

On a related note: Filmmaker Lee Cronin will bring Evil Dead back to life later this year with a remake of his own titled Evil Dead Rise, which will be set inside a high-rise building instead of the traditional cabin in the woods setting.
