Director Lee Cronin‘s Evil Dead movie Evil Dead Rise is set to bring the deadites back to life later this year in a brand new sequel, though an official release date has yet to be conformed by anyone involved. According to producer Bruce Campbell, a positive test screening held recently for the sequel could lead to it receiving theatrical release.

While talking with Comic Book Resource this week, Campbell revealed the following information on a enthusiastic test screening result for Evil Dead Rise:

We just had a preview that went… That was very high ratings. They were potentially going to stream it on HBO Max, but it might go theatrical. Maybe in the fall.

In an update this past Mat, Campbell called Evil Dead Rise a “dark, very adult Evil Dead movie”. Check out the article by following the link to read what exactly he had to say.

Evil Dead Rise has the following synopsis:

“Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sister’s reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The film was produced by Sam RaimiBruce Campbell and Robert Tapert.

Would you like to see Evil Dead Rise get a theatrical run? If so, do you think it should also release on HBO Max as well? As usual, you let us know the answer to both questions down in our comments section below this news article.

With no definite plan in place for Evil Dead Rise‘s possible release in theaters, its original intended debut on HBO Max is what we have in the books for now.
