'Halloween Ends' is "an Appreciation of John Carpenter's Legendary Body of Work", Says Director

Halloween Kills (reviewed here by Dark Universe’s Bill Reick) is currently sitting in the box office top 10 with an impressive total earnings of 127 million worldwide. Now that Kills has been a complete success, our friends at Blumhouse can focus their attention on next October’s Halloween Ends, the final chapter in the new saga, which is set to begin filming in early January of 2022. In a recent interview, trilogy director David Gordon Green described Halloween Ends as an appreciation of John Carpenter’s body of work.

While speaking with Empire Spoiler Special Podcast, Green revealed the following:

There’s not a lot of games in it, there’s not a lot of wittiness and retro joy. It’s kind of a coming-of-age film, and it’s a very different tone. And that’s what excited me about it, is to have the three chapters that I’ve been involved in be very different from each other. They are all there to honor Carpenter, but aren’t necessary just emulating him. I sent Carpenter the new draft of Halloween Ends the other night, and I said, ‘If it feels too Christine, let me know.’ For Halloween Ends, it’s just a love of Carpenter, you know. It’s more than just, ‘Hey, here’s a character and a community that you’ve created.’ It’s, ‘Here’s an appreciation of your legendary body of work.’

I’m intrigued to know more about new draft for Halloween Ends, especially after reading what the director said about it feeling too Christine. Green has made it very clear in a number of previous statements that Ends is going to be a very different Halloween movie, and it was recently confirmed that the story will include the pandemic and peculiar politics.
