'Hellraiser' Reboot Director David Bruckner Says the Film is a "Small Re-Imagining"

In case you haven’t heard, horror icon Pinhead is making a return in a new Hellraiser installment from director David Bruckner (The Night House), which is set to make its debut exclusively on the Hulu streaming service at some point. In a statement this week from Bruckner, the filmmaker teased the film as being “something of a small reimagining”.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Bruckner said:

It is something that we are actively working towards, and it is a joy and a dream for a filmmaker like myself to dive into that world. All I’ll say is that we are aiming to be as true as we can to the original material. [Clive Barker’s original story] ‘The Hellbound Heart’ is also a primary source of inspiration, as well as the original film. But then it is something of a small reimagining and we are currently working on it.

David Goyer, one of the producers of Night House, wrote the story and is producing via his Phantom Four banner alongside Keith Levine.

Hellraiser was written and directed by Clive Barker, adapting his own novella, The Hellbound Heart. The 1987 movie introduced audiences to a puzzle box that opens a gateway to a horrific world and Cenobites, mutilated beings dedicated to torture and led by one nicknamed Pinhead.

The film stars actress Odessa A’zion in the lead role as a character called Riley.

Are you excited for a new Hellraiser franchise installment? Will you be checking it on on Hulu when it makes its exclusive debut on the channel? As usual, you can sound off with all your thoughts on this news article down in our comments section below this post.
