Lee Cronin's 'Evil Dead Rise' to Awaken the Deadites on HBO Max!

According to a report via our friends over at Variety today, writer/director Lee Cronin‘s Evil Dead Rise, a brand new Evil Dead that will replace the woods environment for a high-rise building setting, is set to make its official debut exclusively on the HBO MAX video on demand streaming service. The site also notes that actresses Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan will star as two estranged sisters who must battle flesh-possessing demons for survival.

The story goes like this:

Two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi had the following to say about the film:

I’m thrilled to bring Evil Dead back to its original home at New Line 40 years after the release of the first film…The company’s history as pioneers of horror speaks for itself. I’m equally excited to be working with Lee Cronin, whose gifts as a storyteller make him the ideal filmmaker to continue the enduring legacy of the franchise.

Original Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell added:

At its core, Evil Dead is about ordinary people overcoming extraordinarily terrifying situations. I can’t wait for Alyssa and Lily to fill the blood-soaked shoes of those who have come before them and carry on that tradition.

Sadly, this means no theatre experience for horror fans. How do you guys feel about watching Evil Dead Rise on a streaming platform rather than a theatre? As usual, you can share your thoughts on this new down in our comments section below this post.

Evil Dead Rise is set to begin filming in New Zealand later this year.
