'Mortal Kombat 2': Simon McQuoid Confirms He Will Return to Direct Sequel

Thanks to a report via our friends Deadline this evening, we can confirm that Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid will return to direct the sequel to the 2021 film, with “Moon Knight” writer Jeremy Slater crafting the screenplay.

Back in May, Slater was interviewed by The Direct and talked about working on the script and learning from previous mistakes of the first movie:

It’s really fun so far. We’re about halfway through the script. I’m working really closely with the director and the studios, and the game guys, and I think—I can’t say anything about the actual story, but I think they definitely learned some lessons the last time around in terms of, ‘Here’s the stuff fans responded to, and here’s what people liked out of the movie, and here’s the stuff that didn’t work out as well as we hoped.

What did you think of the first Mortal Kombat effort? Are you excited for another one? As usual, you can sound off with your thoughts on this down in our comments section below this article.

Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of Mortal Kombat 2 as they happen.
