New ‘Alien’ Movie in Development from the Director of ‘Evil Dead’ and ‘Don’t Breathe’ Fede Alvarez

New 'Alien' Movie in Development from the Director of 'Evil Dead' and 'Don't Breathe'

News broke via THR this past Friday evening that the director of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe Fede Alvarez has been hired to write and direct a new Alien movie for 20th Century Studios, which we are told will be coming exclusively to the Hulu streaming service. Ridley Scott will produce the new Alien installment through his Scott Free Productions banner.

20th Century president Steve Asbell said that they picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch” and revealed that it’s “just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.

Asbell went on to explains why bringing the new Alien movie to Hulu is the best thing to do:

It’s not a film that has to be all things to all people with those gargantuan budgets. They get to be authentically what they are. And this is closer to its genre roots.

With that being said, it appears streaming platforms are becoming an important part in the way we watch movies now. Personally speaking, I would prefer a simultaneous release both on streaming and in theaters, but that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

How do you feel about the new Alien movie going straight to the Hulu streaming network? Are you excited by the thought of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe filmmaker Fede Alvarez writing and directing the new project? As usual, you can post your thoughts on both questions down in our comments section below this article to let us know what you think.

More on Alien as news develops.
