Nicolas Winding Refn Says 'Maniac Cop' Series Will Be a Cocaine-Fueled, Neon-Soaked Universe

Last Friday, Deadline reported that a “Maniac Cop” TV series has been given the greenlight by HBO. Showrunner Nicolas Winding Refn (The Neon Demon) and John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Regeneration) will executive produce and direct. The creators are promising a cocaine-fueled, neon-soaked, bubble gum-wrapped, mayhem-infused, speed-driven universe.

Refn teased fans on Twitter with the following message:

The “Maniac Cop” TV series will be the first production for byNWR Originals, an independent studio launched by Refn.

Synopsis: “Set in Los Angeles, “Maniac Cop” is told through a kaleidoscope of characters, from cop to common criminal. A killer in uniform has uncaged mayhem upon the streets. Paranoia leads to social disorder as a city wrestles with the mystery of the exterminator in blue – is he mere mortal, or a supernatural force?

Nick Hall, Lene Borglum, Frederic Fiore, Alex Gayner, Efe Cakarel and William Lustig will executive produce the project.
