Octavia Spencer Cast as Grandmother in New Adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’

American actress, author, and film producer Octavia Lenora Spencer has been cast as the Grandmother in Robert Zemeckis’ new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches. Newcomer Jahzir Bruno is being considered to play the grandson, while Codie-Lei Eastick is working on a deal for an unspecified role.

Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron will produce the new adaptation of Dahl’s story. The project will be more rooted in the original source material, while the Huston movie was a loose adaptation. Zemeckis version will take place in the ’60s Gothic South.

Synopsis: “Grandmamma loves to tell about witches. Real witches are the most dangerous of all living creatures on earth. There’s nothing they hate so much as children, and they work all kinds of terrifying spells to get rid of them. Her grandson listens closely to Grandmamma’s stories—but nothing can prepare him for the day he comes face-to-face with The Grand High Witch herself!

American actress and singer Anne Hathaway has been cast to play the Grand High Witch in Zemeckis’ new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.
