News ‘Paracinema’ Weekend At Derby Film Festival to Host a Night of Extreme Horror Published 1 year ago on April 27, 2018 By Nick Bond Share Tweet The Derby Film Festival will again be running at the city’s QUAD venue from the 4th to the 13th May, and the event will be kicking off with a brand new weekend full of films and genres from outside the mainstream called Paracinema. Offering a range of horror, fantasy, science-fiction, independent and cult movies, Paracinem brings together a fascinating blend of movies from all over the world, including a host of UK, European and World premieres. On the evening of Saturday, 5th May into the morning of Sunday, 6th May, Paracinema will be hosting its All-Night Takeover event, with a thread of extreme horror movies running alongside a host of classic action movies, with audiences able to select one or the other throughout the night, allowing attendees to build their own unique cinematic experience on the night. The third entry in the acclaimed series sees a host of exorcists trying to defeat the demon living within a young girl, Mary, and having to face the direst of consequences should they fail. Starring Jessica Cameron and directed by Stephen Biro, Song of Solomon promises to be a breakthrough movie for this exciting franchise. The extreme screenings begin at 10:25pm with American Guinea Pig: Song of Solomon. This movie is also available to buy as a separate ticket at the DerbyQuad website The second movie of the night, Your Flesh, Your Curse, is an arthouse horror movie from Danish direct Kasper Juhl. Following the harrowing journey of Juliet White into the afterlife, Your Flesh, Your Curse is unflinching but beautifully constructed cinema, featuring a stunning lead performance from Marie Louise-Damgaard. The third offering of the night, She Kills, is a macabre and blackly comic offering from popular US director Ron Bonk. When Sadie’s husband is murdered by a vicious gang called ‘The Touchers’, she calls upon a strange and unexpected power to gain her revenge. She Kills is a loving homage to the ’70s grindhouse and exploitation movies. The final feature is a double-header, with the intense Japanese short film Difficulty Breathing depicting one woman’s descent into insanity after a vicious attack. The event will close with the outrageous horror comedy Black Devil Doll, with an evil possessed puppet causing carnage and chaos among a group of young girls. Jonathan Lewis‘s movie has already achieved cult status and will be a hilarious way to close the night. Tickets to the Paracinema event are £20 and include access to all of the extreme horror screenings as well as an alternative thread of action movies taking in Commando, Demolition Man, Double Impact and Escape From New York.
