'Re-Animator: Evolution' To Arrive In 2017, Jeffrey Combs Not Involved

Don’t get too excited just yet, because this is a rather sucky news update. The next instalment in the Re-Animator franchise will not feature Jeffrey Combs as our favourite medical student Dr. Herbert West.

We found out today from That’s Not Current that Re-Animator Evolution is scheduled for release in February 2017, which will be the first film in the series that Jeffrey Combs will not appear in. We bet you’re wondering who’s taking his place, aren’t you? Johnathon Schaech (Laid to Rest, Prom Night) will be playing the role of Dr. Herbert West. A few other names to appear in the film include Lin Shaye (Insidious), and horror icon Brad Dourif (Child’s Play, The Exorcist III).

Re-Animator: Evolution has the following synopsis: “Pursued by the police, an ambitious neuroscientist uses a neutrino impulse to bring his dead wife back to life, unintentionally unlocking within her dormant powers that threaten the existence of everyone he knows.”

This sounds like it’s going to be low-budget horror with no connection to the existing films. We heard that the film wasn’t even originally titled Re-Animator: Evolution, so how can this possibly be accepted by true fans of the iconic franchise?
