'Scream': Star Courteney Cox Says Fifth Film is a Brand New Launch of the Franchise

As you probably already know if you follow our website, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett‘s new Scream film officially wrapped filming last November. The fifth franchise instalment, hitting theatres on January 14th, 2022, stars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox, who reprise their roles as Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, and Gale Weathers.

Cox had a recent interview with with original Scream star Drew Barrymore on an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where she revealed some details on the upcoming new film:

Scream, this is the fifth one. It’s not Scream 5 though, this is Scream….These directors are incredible, they’re making it absolutely, it’s a new franchise. It’s hip, it’s scary, it’s just a new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s going to be fantastic.

Writer Kevin Williamson recently shared the first batch of photos from the set of the new Scream, along with a look at the film’s official logo.

So what do you make of the above titbits? Do you like the idea of a brand new launch of the Scream franchise? As usual, you can leave your thoughts on this news down in our comments section below this post.

The film also stars Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minnette, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kyle Gallner, and Sonia Ammar.
