‘Spiral: From the Book of Saw’ Pushed Back to May 2021

Lionsgate announced in March the delay of the upcoming Saw reboot Spiral: From the Book of Saw, leaving many wondering if the film would release by the end of 2020. Now we have an official release date as Lionsgate has announced the movie will hit theaters May 21st, 2021, an entire year after its original release date.

This may be disappointing news to those looking forward to the new take on the Saw franchise but it should come as no surprise as Lionsgate wants to ensure it gets the timing right in order to maximize the potential of the film’s box office performance.

Lionsgate CMO and head of global distribution Damon Wolf said the following,

As audiences from around the world head back to theaters, most will return feeling that specialness that only the traditional theatrical experience can offer. Lionsgate is thrilled to present such a wide variety of films with many more to come. From great branded IP to unique stories from new voices, the terrifying reimagined and some truly hysterical comedy, we join with our partners in exhibition in welcoming movie lovers back to their favorite theaters with something special for everyone.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and stars Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson.

The official synopsis reads: “Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly trapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
