'The Toxic Avenger' Reboot: Star Peter Dinklage Teases an Over-the-Top Monster Movie

This past August we learned that filming had officially wrapped in Bulgaria on Legendary Pictures Entertainment and director Macon Blair‘s reboot of Troma Entertainment’s 1984 comedy horror classic The Toxic Avenger. Now that production is complete, star Peter Dinklage discussed some fresh details about the movie in a new interview with Empire.

While the topic of the upcoming reboot was in motion, Dinklage took the opportunity to tell the publication that the new movie is a over-the-top, crazy monster ride:

It’s a lot of fun,” said Dinklage in a new interview with Empire. “I just wanted to do something that I’ve never done before. So why not be a monster in an over-the-top, crazy movie, and why not sing in another one?

When asked if the new reboot will be as depraved as Troma’s original, Dinklage said:

Yes. It’s not a remake. I just like guerrilla filmmaking. Those movies – they just made them, no matter what. They just did it because they love doing it. Some of them are not the best, but some are so much fun. When you make movies too clean, it can distance the audience. They want to feel the dirt under their fingernails. I think those Troma films definitely dipped the audience in toxic waste.

The Toxic Avenger reboot movie has the following synopsis:

“Winston, a stereotypical weakling who works as a janitor at Garb-X health club and is diagnosed with a terminal illness that can only be cured by an expensive treatment that his greedy, power hungry employer refuses to pay for. After deciding to take matters into his own hands and rob his company, Winston falls into a pit of toxic waste and is transformed into a deformed monster that sets out to do good and get back at all the people who have wronged him.”

Do you enjoy the comedic side of the Toxie character? If so, are you looking forward to seeing him make a return in next year’s reboot movie? As usual, you can post your thoughts down in our comments section below this article to let us know what you think.

Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment served as producers on the project with Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter overseeing for Legendary.

The reboot also stars Kevin BaconJacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige.

Stay tuned to Dark Universe for more details on the Legendary’s Toxie reboot as they drop.
