Updated: Serge Levin Says Re-Animator: Evolution Will Be A Modern Rendition

Previously, we reported that a new Re-Animator film was coming in February 2017, which is titled Re-Animator: Evolution. We can now bring you more information on the next franchise film from director Serge Levin, who wrote a script with Johnathon Schaech. Unfortunately, Jeffrey Combs will not be returning to play his iconic role as Herbert West.

Blood-Disgusting scored some more details on Re-Animator: Evolution straight from the writer/director. Johnathon Schaech will also play Herbert West, alongside Lin Shaye and Brad Dourif. We have our doubts about this film, but you can read what Serge Levin had to say about it.

“Our adaptation is a modern rendition of Herbert West – ‘Reanimator’ by H.P. Lovecraft,” Levin tells Bloody Disgusting. “Moreover, we’re making sure that the spirit and the story elements are more loyal to the original written material of H.P. Lovecraft.

“It’s much darker, more thought provoking, and definitely more grounded in science than the first adaptation,” he continued. “It will be a true horror film with some neat sic-fi layers.”

It sounds like the film will be a completely new adaptation of the original HP Lovecraft story, but will this make it more acceptable to the fans? Without Jeffrey Combs, Brian Yuzna or Stuart Gordon on board, how can this be something to get excited about? I Guess we’ll have to wait and see as nothing is 100% final yet.

Re-Animator: Evolution has the following synopsis: “Pursued by the police, an ambitious neuroscientist uses a neutrino impulse to bring his dead wife back to life, unintentionally unlocking within her dormant powers that threaten the existence of everyone he knows.”
