Writer David S. Goyer Promises New 'Hellraiser' Will Be a Loyal Reimagining of the Original

After years of disappointments, a new Hellraiser movie is in development at Spyglass Media Group that promises to be a true reimagining of Clive Barker’s creation.

Dark Universe learned via Variety today that the original 1987 horror classic Hellraiser movie is getting the revival treatment at Gary Barber’s Spyglass Media Group. The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer is attached to produce and write the script.

As reported by the site, Goyer said: “I’ve been a fan of Clive’s work since the original Books of Blood paperbacks and ‘The Hellbound Heart‘ novella. Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.

The filmmakers are promising that the new Hellraiser movie is going to be a “loyal, yet evolved reimagining” of the original Clive Barker masterpiece featuring the character Pinhead.

Barker penned and directed Hellraiser, which was based on Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, which is considered one of the greatest horror movies ever made.

Keith Levine will serve as a producer alongside Goyer, under the Phantom Four banner. Chris Stone will oversee the project for Spyglass Media Group.

Stay tuned for more updates on this project as they are announced.
