AEW Wrestler Samoa Joe Will Be Sweet Tooth in the Upcoming "Twisted Metal" Series on Peacock

Valentine’s Day 2022 marked a full decade since the last entry in the seminal car combat video game series Twisted Metal. What was a return to form after yet another decade absent from consoles (save for the “Extra Twisted Edition” of the PSP’s Head-On) has gone unanswered again, so when Peacock announced that they would soon be introducing a new action-comedy television series based on the deadly tournament, fans of the games rejoiced. Perhaps this will convince the powers that be to bring us a game to the PlayStation 5, where they left the PS4 without so much as a reference to Sweet Tooth and the gang.

On the subject of the murderous clown once known as Needles Kane, while the voice of the character has already been announced as Will Arnett (“Bojack Horseman”, “Arrested Development”, et al), the physical form will be occupied by All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Samoa Joe. Standing 6 foot 2, weighing 310 pounds, and having a reputation as one of the toughest wrestlers in the game today, this is some spot-on casting by Peacock, who has the following to say about the announcement:

JOE SEANOA (AEW) will play the physical body of ‘Sweet Tooth,’ a hilarious and terrifying hulk of a man, who is as emotional as he is cunning. A lover of chaos, this majestic rage-filled killer dons an ever-smiling clown mask and uses ‘Lost Vegas’ as his own personal kill-ground, all while he drives his infamous doomsday ice cream truck.

Samoa Joe is known for his time in Total Nonstop Action / IMPACT Wrestling, as well as in Ring of Honor (ROH), WWE, and now AEW. Joe is currently the Ring of Honor World Television Champion, and was most recently a finalist in the inaugural Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament. He is also a two-time former world champion between TNA and ROH, as well as a three-time NXT Champion.

While he won’t be providing the voice for Sweet Tooth, Joe’s previous credits outside of wrestling include the Telltale adaptation of “Game of Thrones” and the voice of Juggernaut in the Dota franchise. He will also voice King Shark in the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. “Twisted Metal” is currently in production, with no formal release date announced at this time.
