The Ankler is reporting this week that a new IT prequel series titled “Welcome to Derry” is in active development at HBO Max. As of writing this article, it has been confirmed that Andy Muschietti is attached to executive produce the series along with Barbara Muschietti.

While the project hasn’t been officially announced as being greenlit by Warner, journalist for the Ankler Jeff Sneider received word from reputable sources who told him that the “writer’s room is being/has been convened for the project“.

According to some extended details straight from our friends over at Variety, the series will begin in the 1960s in the time leading up to the events of “It: Part One,” the 2017 film based on the Stephen King horror novel. The story is also said to include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.
